Journeys with Raven shares the story of Rita Makkannaw’s journey into the awakening on her spiritual self. In 1986, at age forty-one, Rita began to have many new spiritual experiences, discovering in the process a completely new world. It takes us through a process of learning to understand WHO Rita is. With the guidance of her husband Raven, a Cree First Nations Medicine Man and spiritual leader of his people, and many other elders, she began a twenty-year apprenticeship in spirituality, native history, and philosophy. Her message is that the old teachings are as relevant today as they were for hundreds of generations past. Human nature has not changed--it is only that we live our lives in different ways. Journeys with Raven takes us on a journey through a transformation from a life focused solely on family and career to an opening into the world of spirituality. A world of connectedness with all. A world of knowing Who Rita is. It is a journey which opened to a new truth of the reality of traditional Cree culture and philosophy which she feels has relevance today. The philosophy of connectedness and respect for nature and all teachings of peace and goodness is the key to peace. When we truly know WHO we are, we have created a place and space of peace within our souls and respect for others. This is a story of a life transformed.
